Age:

43

Status:

Profession:

Broadcaster 25 years (currently self-employed)

Education:

Springfield Heights (Elementry School), Chief Peguis (Junior High School), River East Collegiate (High School), Red River College (Business Administration degree), National Institute of Broadcasting (Broadcast degree), Assiniboine College (Broadcast Arts degree).

Career History

I began my on-air broadcasting career in Brandon in the summer of 1988.  An entry level position with CKX-AM 1150.  It was a MOR (Middle of the Road) station that played everything from Perry Como to Whitney Houston (and everything in between).  I stayed with the station from the summer of 1988 until the fall of 1991.  Jobs included; Weekend Announcer and News and Sports Host, Afternoon Drive Home Announcer, Morning Host and Music Director.

In September 1991, I was promoted to Morning Show Host and Assistant Program Director of the FM sister station CKX-FM 96.1.  I was directly responsible for what was heard on the station in 1995 when I was promoted to Program Director/Manager.  I was cited by the federal government's broadcast authority (the CRTC) for maintaining a perfect recorcord of performance of the station's broadcast license.

I moved back to Winnipeg in 1998 and in September, I was hired at CFWM-FM 99.9 (Magic 99.9) to host the Afternoon Drive Home Show.  That along with duties of Music and Sports Director kept me very busy until I was promoted to host the Morning Show in the spring of 1999.  I stayed in that post until the radio station was sold to the CHUM Group in the spring of 2002.

Almost immediately after the sale, I was quickly recruited to join NCI-FM 105.5 (Manitoba's only Aboriginal Radio Network).  I filled a number of roles including; Broadcast Consultant, Music Director, Account Executive, Sports and Marketing Director.  At NCI, I was exposed to a keen understanding of the Aboriginal lifestyle and culture.

Following NCI, I began work on a Community Radio Station for Selkirk, Manitoba.  It is still in the formative stages but you can see the developments of my company Interlake Broadcast Group on my station's website at www.bigfm.ca.

I am also developing a new Winnipeg radio station called THE END on AM 1610.  The website is at http://theendradio.50megs.com.

And, I work part-time as a night-time DJ/Host at SIN CITY at the Howard Johnson's hotel near the airport.  They're Winnipeg's Number 1 Adult Night Club - can't help it, I JUST LOVE THE LADIES!!!

Other Projects

I am also the Director of Special Projects for TO THE POINT MARKETING - a company created by my brother (Rob Walker) that is directly connected to an international success story SIDETRACK TECHNOLOGIES - a company that has developed motion picture and LED advertising shown on subway tunnel walls around the world!

I was also part of a world wide television sports production called Hockey Enforcers on pay per view the summer of 2005 as it's Director of Operations.
